Cavendish 250

Kindred Spirits in beautiful Cavendish, PE, was the backdrop for Cavendish 250 on June 6th and 7th. Cavendish 250 is an annual gathering of pastors who lead our churches that have an average weekly attendance of 250 or more. While many issues are common to all churches, larger churches have struggles and challenges often unique to them. The Convention provides administrative support for this affinity group as they network, connect and wrestle with issues like human resources, building projects and a host of other things. And while these meetings may not provide solutions, just to know that others are dealing with the same issues can be very beneficial as they seek to lead.

This year, the Cavendish 250 pastors wanted to recognize other pastors who they would believe to be emerging leaders and pour some energy into connecting with them. Each had the opportunity to invite someone who would they would see as an emerging leader within our Convention. In total, twenty-two were in attendance for a time of connecting around personal and church issues, sharing the highs and lows of the past year as well as informal time set aside for one-on-one if they choose (many gathered together to watch Game 3 of the Stanley Cup).

Rev. Sam Chaise, General Secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries, was invited to come and interact with the pastors. Relatively unknown to Atlantic Canada, Sam (accompanied by Dr. Malcolm Card) was able to share his vision for CBM and the church in Canada. He was able to have some time with the group as a whole as well as an opportunity to lead discussion with the emerging leaders.
