Celebrating 250 Years of Baptist Witness in Canada

celebrating-250-years2013 marks a milestone in Canada as we celebrate 250 years of Baptist witness in Canada. Imagine what life was like then when 13 church planters from Massachusetts arrived at Slack’s Cove, NB and would plant what we know as Middle Sackville Baptist Church. And imagine how long it took Ebenezer Moulton to travel from Yarmouth to the Annapolis Valley as he established the Horton (Wolfville) Baptist Church. How things have changed!

Even if you’re not a history buff, it’s exciting to think that Baptist witness in Canada started here and spread across the country. Think of it this way – Baptists across Canada can point to the east (not Toronto) and say, “It all started there!”

As the CABC, we will be recognizing this milestone and our heritage at Oasis (Aug. 9-11) this summer. If you want to be a part of this, plan to come. It’s just two months away!

There are also some local celebrations and recognitions taking place that we wanted to inform you about:

  • Sunday June 9th 3pm – A service at the monument at Slack’s Cove, NB, will be held to commemorate the landing of the church planters from Mass. A service of music & prayer will be held at Main Street Baptist, Sackville @ 6pm. All are invited.
  • Sunday September 22nd 10:30am – A combined celebration service at Convocation Hall, Mt. Allison University. All are invited.
  • Baptist Heritage Month – June has been designated Baptist Heritage Month in Sackville, NB

As we become aware of more we will let you know. Let us know if your church is planning to celebrate this.

Join with us as we celebrate!
