LINK 2012 Recap

Link is a highlight of the year for many of our clergy teens and this one proved no exception. Held at the scenic Bayside Camp, near Halifax, NS, Link 2012 brought together 60 Pastor’s Kids (52 youth and 8 leaders) to celebrate the joys and escape the stresses of life in a ministry family. This retreat weekend offers a time to just be yourself among friends who accept and understand you. “I actually feel normal here at LINK!” commented one of our leaders, and a chorus of agreement was heard around the room.

A Friday night campfire kicked off the weekend as various versions of camp songs from around our region brought laughter and friendly rivalry. Night games and board games gave time to get acquainted, while the ever popular Variety Show on Saturday night showcased the talent of these amazing young people. Who will ever forget the debut of our own boy band, led by Adam Moore, doing a cover of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful?” Thanks for the crazy memories, guys! The Link Café brought a touch of atmosphere to Saturday night’s snack time.

Link would not be complete without awesome times of worship. This year Raquel Poley MacLean led the music, carefully crafting our worship experience through the songs she chose. Her coordination was greatly appreciated, and as the other leaders joined in with their own musical talents, they formed a worship team that sounded like it had rehearsed for weeks. Chris Keezer’s challenge to us on Sunday morning inspired us to go on to greater things for God. A special word of thanks goes out to the seven young adults who came as leaders this year. You were amazing!

Whether it was a time to ask hard questions in a small group, or a time to chat with old and new friends, there was a sense of fellowship and encouragement that permeated the weekend. Even the rain seemed destined to bring us closer together in friendship. Tearful good-byes, group hugs, and the refrain of “You don’t know you’re beautiful” brought the weekend to a close as parents and teens packed up vehicles for the ride home.

Next year, Link 2013 will take place at Camp Wildwood, McKee’s Mills, NB September 27-29. The weekend is open and free to all clergy teens between the age of 13 and Grade 12 who have a parent in ministry with the CABC. Registration forms will become available online in the early spring. Space is limited so register early to reserve your spot!
