CBM Announces Departure of Gary Nelson

Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) announced this week that General Secretary Rev. Dr. Gary Nelson, has elected not to renew his contract and will depart from CBM in June 2010 to assume the role of President and CEO of Tyndale University College & Seminary in Toronto.
Over the past 10 years, Gary's has faithfully served this "tribe of Canadian Baptists" (as Gary calls us). He has brought leadership and wisdom in a time that was critically needed to guide the organization through changes and growth. He has helped to equip a leadership team that will propel CBM into the future as they face challenges and exciting new possibilities.
Executive Minister, Dr. Peter Reid says, "Along with many others in our Canadian Baptist family, I am deeply saddened to hear of Gary Nelson’s decision to leave Canadian Baptist Ministries. I am so thankful to God for Gary’s leadership in our Canadian Baptist family. Gary has been the catalyst in the transformation that has taken place in CBM over the last ten years. I feel as though his going will leave a huge hole in our partnership in mission both here at home and worldwide. Gary’s vision and courage along with innovative leadership style has changed the landscape of mission and he will be greatly missed. Having said all that, I believe Gary has thoughtfully discerned the will of God in accepting the position at Tyndale. I believe his impact on the Church in Canada will be significant in the years to come. We will miss Gary at the helm of CBM, and we are indebted to him in his role as the person who passionately believed in brokering this partnership we call the Canadian Baptist 'tribe'.”
