Granville Centre To Celebrate 100th Anniversary
In September, Granville Centre United Baptist Church will mark their 100th anniversary with a service and reception at the Granville Centre Hall on September 30 at 11:00 am.
The special occasion will look back to the founding of the church at a meeting held on September 13, 1907. Despite the fact that Baptists had a meeting house in the area (Wadeville) since before 1886, they travelled to Bridgetown (Upper Granville) to worship. With enough interest in worshiping locally, planning for the new group began. In August of the same year, the Bridgetown church released 51 members. Services were first held at the Temperance Hall, which is now the Granville Centre Community Hall.
Family names of the first members are still known in the congregation: Eaton, Neily, Withers, Goodwin, and Troop are familiar in Granville Centre.
Everyone is invited to help the Granville Centre Church celebrate this important milestone.
