Advent: Light in the Neighbourhood

Advent is that season of waiting, preparation and expectancy we enter each year as we anticipate celebrating Christ’s birth. John 1 captures the darkness the Israelites were experiencing when the light of Jesus’ birth and ministry entered the world: “The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.” “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood.” (John 1:3,14 MSG)

Through the Advent season, we will post five videos for you and your church to use during Advent. These will help you in this season of waiting and anticipation of the celebration of Christ’s birth. Each Monday, beginning November 27th (the Monday before Advent), a new video will be available on this page and our social media channels – Hope. Peace. Joy. Love. These four videos can be used in your personal advent reflection, shared among your church family, and used in your church services.

A fifth video will be available as a sermon from our Executive Minister, Rev. Renée MacVicar. This 20-minute message can be used on December 24th or 31st to give your pastor a break during this busy season.

This Advent, may we experience the Light that moved into the neighbourhood and may our churches be and share the Light in their neighbourhoods.
