Corn Hill Baptist Rising from the Ashes

Corn Hill Baptist after the Fire

Corn Hill Baptist after the fire

After a devastating fire set by an arsonist in September 2007, the Corn Hill Baptist congregation has voted to restore and enlarge their facilities. The congregation has been meeting in the tiny cafeteria of Corn Hill Nursery, northeast of Sussex. Corn Hill Baptist will begin renovations immediately. Pastor Jim Hannah hopes that the church will be ready to hold worship services by the end of June 2008.

The fire destroyed one end of the building including the kitchen, ruined pews, organs, hymnbooks and kitchen appliances. Providentially, the historic church bell and valuable stained glass windows sustained only smoke damage. Pastor and congregation appreciate the many individuals and area churches that have supported them. $500,000 is needed for the renovations.
